Where Forged Components Fit

Forged starting material can serve either as an alternative to a casting or as a complementary source for internal pump and valve components. The appropriate route depends on component geometry, quantity, material utilization, machining scope and total manufacturing cost.

Components Within Pump and Valve Assemblies

Pump and Valve Internal Components

Pump and valve assemblies often combine cast pressure‑containing components with forged and machined internal parts. In addition to cast bodies, casings and impellers, ALBA can support the supply of finished internal components manufactured from qualified forged starting material.

Alternative to Casting

For some component geometries, producing the part from a forging and completing the final shape by machining can result in a lower total manufacturing cost than casting. This may apply where the geometry is relatively straightforward, a suitable forged starting form is available and the required quantity does not justify casting tooling or process preparation.

Selecting Between Casting and Forging

Casting and forging are not interchangeable in every application. ALBA reviews the component drawing, required material grade, geometry, quantity, machining scope, inspection requirements and delivery condition before assessing the available manufacturing routes.

Final manufacturing‑route selection is based on the complete drawing and project requirements. Neither route is inherently more economical for every component.

How ALBA Controls the Supply Route

Controlled Supply from Forging to Finished Component

1. Technical and Purchasing Requirements

The material grade, applicable specification, forged starting form, heat‑treatment condition, testing scope and documentation requirements are defined before purchase.

2. Qualified Forging Source

Raw forgings are sourced from qualified forging shops selected according to the material, grades, product form and project requirements.

3. Material and Document Verification

Material identification, dimensions, certificates and required test results are reviewed before the component enters subsequent machining.

4. Precision Machining and Final Inspection

The forging is machined to the customer drawing and inspected according to the specified dimensional, surface and documentation requirements.
